Anyone have a baby with psoriasis?
My husband has psoriasis and has a family history of it. I recently noticed several patches on my baby (on his legs, back and arms) of what looks like psoriasis. My baby is 4.5 months old and of course I’m hoping it’s not psoriasis. I’m slathering on the lotion and will be taking him to the pediatrician soon to check it out. I was just wondering if anyone has had a young baby with moderate psoriasis, and if so, what types of remedies (natural and medical) did you use to treat it? Thanks!
ok there are a lot of myths about psoriasis. Your best option is to check with the pediatrician.. and if it is psoriasis get a referral for a dermatologist. General doctors and pediatricians do NOT know enough about psoriasis to treat it.
There are tons of new discoveries about it and things that are NOT best. (hanging outside in the sun is NOT a treatment for psoriasis!!) Many things that work for one person will NOT work for another, especially in young children. Your best bet is to get a diagnosis quick and get it under control because the sooner you do, the less likely it will get serious and painful.
I would not use any “natural” remedies.. or any remedies until my child has gone to a dermatologist as many “old wives tales” have been proven to make it worse or cause other problems. This is your child, and if your husband has it he knows how horrible this can be. Do whatever you can and fast to get this under control. If your pediatrician does not sound 100% convincing.. then get a second opinion as MANY doctors misdiagnose psoriasis in children.
also.. don’t be 100% certain that is what it is yet.. as all babies can have dry skin and unless its flaky, you can’t be sure that it is psoriasis. If it is flaky you should really stop using lotion and get him into a doctor because lotion is usually not recommended for psoriasis. There is something called cetaphil moisturizer that is recommended by the national psoriasis foundation which works like lotion and you can get it at any store. it is safe for children the last I checked.
Good luck and I will send good wishes your way in hopes that it is NOT psoriasis!!!

Psoriasis is a condition that appears as dry and flaky skin. This disease torments many people and is embarrassing for the sufferer. It can be very unsightly to look at, displaying itself as red, dry, patchy and flaky skin. The sufferers of psoriasis are always on the lookout for pure, chemical-free remedies, to try to manage the eruptions and associated symptoms.
After they give birth, all mammals produce colostrum as their first milk.Usually lasting for 24 hours, although it can continue for two or three days, it appears thick and yellowish. For young infants this first milk is extremely important because not only does it have minerals and vitamins, it holds antibodies to combat diseases prior to the immune system becoming robust enough itself. Colostrum is a vital ingredient for new-born babies because it assists in warding off pollutants in the air, thus not affecting them with autoimmune disease. There is however a side effect to colostrum, it does slow down the fat burning activity of the body by slowing down the metabolism a little.
Colostrum doesn’t evolve until after the birth of the baby and then only lasts for one to three days. Although babies receive colostrum via breastfeeding, adults can gain advantage from it by taking supplements. As all mammals yield colostrum it can also be taken from goats, sheep and cows.
Colostrum assists the body many ways, one of which is fighting off viruses and destructive bacteria. Although it does slow down the burning of fat it is encouraging to know that it also builds lean muscle. It invigorates the skin allowing it to appear healthy. After injury it hastens the healing process. It rids the intestines of surplus waste. To aid joints to operate smoothly, colostrum builds healthy cartilage. Also reducing anxiety is another one of its attributes.
When trying to find colostrum at health food stores online the one thing to consider is the words ‘first milk’ on the packaging label. To avert further flare-ups and to assist in healing the wounds the natural ingredients in these supplements will help.
